The next time you are thinking about sprucing up the outside of your home, consider adding a wind chime to the experience. Imagine an early summer morning with the wind blowing softly. Hearing the sound of different wind chimes would be so divine. They are great to look at and add a whole new dimension to your garden.

Wind chimes come in all types and materials. Bamboo is my preference for outdoors, and it adds a great Asian touch. The tones of chimes are so soothing and can actually reduce stress and anxiety. They can help you reconnect to nature and to other people. You could have a dinner date and use wind chimes in place of romantic music or start your day stress-free with a leisurely outdoor breakfast listening to the chimes.

Set an outdoor wind chime up on the back porch and it will add to a late night storm and lightning show. There would be nothing better than to smell a summer rain while reading a book and listening to the vibrations of your favorite chime.

Some people even build a chime garden. There are plenty of websites that teach you the basics of creating your own chime garden, but the idea is to use many different types of outdoor wind chimes. You could have a wooden chime with a low melodic and primitive tone, or you could have electric ones and set up the whole concert! Put chimes in different places and at different levels for different noise effects.

Wind chimes are relatively easy to hang. You want to make sure they are secure, so try using hooks sold for bird feeders, which are pretty steady. If you are hanging it on a porch, a C-shaped hook in the ceiling will suffice,

But if you are hanging it on the side of a building, make sure your hook sticks out enough so the chime doesn't touch anything. If you want to dress up your chime, you can buy a fancy hanger. Lastly, watch out for strong winds when choosing where to hang your chime. You don't want it to become damaged.

Other considerations are how many rods you would like your chime to have. While it's a matter of preference, you want to have enough rods that your chime makes a good sound.

There are also different rod types. I have found that the solid rod and hollow rods are pretty much the same in terms of sound, though hollow chimes will weigh less. It's up to you what look, feel and sound you'd like for your yard.

Search around for the perfect outdoor wind chimes for your home or a friend's home and get ready for nature's musical performance. It will be a performance you will not soon forget.
