Do you find yourself resisting going to your job? Are you counting the days until the end of your work week? You are not alone. Monday morning blues is a common condition. However, you can change all that now. Find out now how you too can transform your job into a wonderful service.

Jonathan, a 24-year-old waiter, came into my office because he was feeling depressed about his job. To help him feel better, I guided him through a HART (Holistic And Rapid Transformation) process. I asked the young man to close his eyes and to say,"I don't like my job because __" and finish the sentence. Jonathan replied, "I don't like my job because I am not making a difference in the world. I am just doing it to make enough money to pay my bills. I feel I am just existing and wasting my time."

I shared with Jonathan that no matter what we do, when we come from caring, we are making a contribution to others. That is the distinction between work and service. The latter comes from caring and that does make a difference.

I explained that when I go to a restaurant and the server demonstrates caring by smiling, being friendly, and obviously wanting to make sure I have a good dining experience, I feel great. On the contrary, even when the food is good, if the service is not, I do not feel satisfied.

Therefore, Jonathan, when you shift your perception of your job from work to service, you will feel a lot better. "Wow, Helene!" he said. "I never thought about it that way. I do like people and I love to help them feel happier. I never realized that I have been making a difference. Thank you so much. I feel great!"

Can you relate to Jonathan's feelings? It really is just a matter of shifting your consciousness and not necessarily your job.

In another example, Kate, a forty-two-year-old bookkeeper in a large corporation, complained to me that the people she worked with were too serious and negative. "I hate to go to the office, Helene, because the people are no fun and they bring me down." I suggested to Kate that she be her fun, loving self with all her co-workers. Also that she express caring by looking for something to acknowledge, appreciate, or compliment them about.

Kate began to realize that if she allowed herself to be more fun and positive, she could help others do the same. She also opened up to the idea that what she was doing at her job was a service to the company, her fellow employees, and herself. More optimistic, Kate was looking forward to the next day at the office.

The following week the bookkeeper returned for her counseling session looking much happier. "It worked, Helene," Kate exclaimed. "What a difference! Instead of following the behavior of others, I just focused on being my positive, caring self, and I am having more fun. It also feels great to say I am going to do my service, instead of going to work."

No matter what you are doing to earn a living, you too can feel good about your service. Say the word, "work" and then, "service" and see if they feel any different. Does service feel better to you? Remember that whenever you come from caring, you are making a difference because you are in service.

Finally, to enjoy your occupation it is helpful to daily express your gratitude for having the opportunity to earn a living and to serve others.
