We all know that search engine ranking is based upon the content of a site. Sites that contain quality content automatically garner links and are ranked higher. So how does a person achieve this?

First off, people will say to write about what you know. I am sure that you have heard or read about this numerous times but people will not say it if there is no truth behind it. Writing is hard as it is because you have to think about what to write, compose it clearly and deliver it in a way that is interesting to people. Hence, if you write about something that you are not passionate about chances are you will detract readers because people can tell right away if an article is worth their attention or not. Also, not everything that you know is common knowledge to people. Thus, people will benefit from your articles if they learn something new or useful from it.

Unfortunately, we are not all experts on a specific field. Majoring in a particular course in college does not make you an expert. You have to gain experience and build credibility in your own community first. If you are writing about something you know nothing or little about, make sure to do thorough research on your chosen topic. Picking a topic that is not commonly talked about will most likely generate some interest. However, if you decide to stick to mainstream views, you should choose an angle or point of view that has not been discussed yet in order to shed a new light on the issue at hand.

Moreover, interviewing prominent people in the industry will definitely attract readers. These people are famous for a reason, hence people are curious about them. They will want to know how they achieve success, secrets that they have-both personal and professional, and what undertakings they are apart of or are doing right now.

In addition, writing a review about a new product or service will entice people to your site. Writing your honest opinion and the pros and cons of a product will be beneficial to your readers. They would also appreciate the candor especially if they are debating on whether to purchase a particular product or not.

Lastly, always keep the readers in mind. If you write for the sake of the readers, then you will captivate more readers than you can imagine. Thus, focus your article on what readers would find interesting, informative or entertaining. If you concentrate on these matters then readers will keep on reading anything that you write. Also, it would help to be brief and direct to the point. In addition, writing in layman's terms will enable people to understand what you are saying. Note that not everyone reading your site is familiar with computer or other professional jargon. You also have to mention why the topic matters and how it relates to them. There is always the "what does this have to do with me?" mentality and attitude in each one of us.
