Whether your hair is long or short, thick or fine, blonde, red or brown, styling it is essential to its overall "look". Your hairstyle can make or break your image, and even if you have the world’s greatest hair, improper styling can make you look bland, boring and even washed out.

Here are a few styling tips to help you on the path to great, glorious hair:

1.) Don't stick with the same hairstyle for too long. Changing your hairstyle is at the forefront of changing your entire look. A new look can make you look fresh and funky, so chat with your hair stylist about a style that will suit you. Don't go too dramatic unless you're after the "wow factor".

2.) There are a lot of products on the market these days, so much that exclusive hair shops have popped up all over the place. Too many products at once can leave your hair looking greasy and limp. So instead of covering your hair in every product, rather go for ones that your hair needs -- think essentials only. For instance, if your hair is fine and knotted, go for a detangler only. If it lacks shine, a glossing aid or silicone will help add sheerness and shine. If it's brittle and broken a repairing treatment is necessary.

3.) Avoid washing your hair too often. While clean hair looks great, try to avoid washing it every day. The more you wash your hair the greasier it will become. Rather opt for a deep cleansing shampoo and ease up on the conditioner when washing your hair.

4.) Ease up on the heat. Try to blow dry and iron your hair (if needed) as little as possible. Heat causes damage to the hair, so bear that in mind when applying heat. If you absolutely must blow dry or iron your hair, ensure you are using a good quality heat product recommended by your hairdresser or product manufacturer.

5.) Don't clutter your hair. Hair accessories are great, but don’t overdo it. Stick with to one style at a time to avoid looking like a Christmas tree. Your hair should be noticed but not demand attention with too many wild and wacky accessories.
