Movement is inevitable. People move, for one reason or another, with the prospect of landing into somewhere better. But moving from one place to another is never easy. If you plan to move, you need to plan ahead. relocation companies come in very handy, some have very flexible relocation package depending on the size and distance of move. relocation services are readily available, whether for big or small objects, whether to the next block or interstate.
While relocation companies offer packing and unpacking services, many people opted to pack and unpack themselves for a multitude of reasons. Some say it is a worthy family activity in order to make all family members more responsible of their belongings, while others wanted to save, because packing or unpacking on your own can cut almost half of the relocation services fee.
Packing isn’t easy yet many people prefer to pack up to the last minute of moving, they claim that ‘I work better when I cram…’ But the truth is cramming will only make you sick and irritable and that is the last thing you need when you are moving. Cram packers often miss the importance of organizing things you put in the box. They have this as-long-as-they-are-all-locked-up-in-the-box attitude. If you cram during packing chances are you’ll end up in one of these situations once you reach you new location:
· Frustrated from trying to locate the things you need immediately on your new house
· Dead beat from turning all boxes up-side-down in order to find something
· Spend two or three times the time you need to organize or put things in the right location
Packing is a very tedious work and, at times, very unnerving. So to help loosen some of the constricting nerves due to the chaos and hassles of packing here are some helpful steps to execute packing in an orderly manner and to avoid the perils of cramming:
First, ensure that you have ample time and able hands to do the packing.
Second, secure all the things you need will for packing. These are your weapons. It doesn’t have to be new or sleek, what is important is the practicality and usefulness of the material.
Boxes – get several medium sized ones instead of few big boxes, so that one or two persons can lift it with ease. Where to get these things? It can be purchased to moving supply companies. You may also buy used, but still intact, boxes at lower cost. Groceries and liquor stores are also sources of boxes.
Packing tape – be sure to secure plenty of this stuff to seal the box flaps. Plenty of packing tapes will facilitate packing of several people. You may also get tape dispenser that way it will be easier to cut the desired length of tape.
Scissors – have your scissors within reach in case something needs to be cut.
Garbage bags – to separate the those things for thrash immediately so it wouldn’t pile up and look messy while you pack important things. These bags may also be used when boxes are not enough, but be sure to use the type of thrash bag which you can see through so that you can easily identify those containing garbage to be disposed and those you filled up with things you packed.
Markers – preferably colored ones for labeling contents and to color-code those things you pack for the different rooms, e.g. red for those things you packed for the living room, etc. Also label clearly and legibly, do not put labels like ‘stuff’ or ‘miscellaneous’, instead write details of content like ‘Danny’s clothes,’ or ‘kitchen utensils,’ etc. Mark also the boxes that contain fragile objects to give caution to those who will move the boxes. You can also put numbers in boxes.
Newspaper – for wrapping fragile objects like those made from glass.
Third, you are now ready to get started with packing. As said on the first tip, ensure ample time for packing so you wouldn’t be stressed or burnt out once you start. Make use of the color and number codes. Color-code boxes or bags with markers or ribbons to classify which room they came from, and which room they will go once you unload. Also, pack the least important things first because chances are you will still use the important things as the packing progresses. Label the boxes from least to most important, so that when you unpack you will know what to open first, naturally the highest numbered boxes are the important and immediate things you need.
One last thing, when you are all packed and ready to leave your old house or office, turn the power off through the main switch. There you go have a safe and organized trip.
