Are you having trouble choosing an MA dissertation topic? Do you think that just after choosing a topic you will be able to write your dissertation and complete your MA program? First of all, it is normal that a lot of students face difficulty when they have to come up with a topic. Secondly, it is not enough to just choose a topic and get it approved. You have to know a few important things that will ensure that after selecting a particular topic and getting it approved, you will actually be able to write a dissertation on it. So, let’s see how you should choose an MA dissertation topic:

Not Vague or Ambiguous:

Your topic should not be vague or ambiguous. After all, you have to provide a clear understanding of your topic and, therefore, how can a vague topic help you achieve that? It can’t, so make sure it is not ambiguous in anyway. You can’t write your dissertation unless you have a clear picture of what you want to write about. Therefore, it is crucial to choose a clear, concise and meaningful topic.

Not Too Broad:

Make sure your MA dissertation topic is not too broad. It has to be concise and to the point. A broad topic will contain many sub-topics within it and it will be almost impossible for you to complete your dissertation on time. Choose a topic that can be narrowly defined. It will help you remain focused and on track.

Data Availability:

Choosing a concise and narrowly defined topic is not even enough. You also need to make sure that there is ample material available for your dissertation. If you think there isn’t sufficient material available for a particular topic, then don’t choose it. Not having enough sources for your dissertation will make you procrastinate and you will end up wasting your time and money.

So, now you know what should be done when you are ready to choose your MA dissertation topic. Do not select a topic arbitrarily. Make sure you choose a topic thoughtfully, after thorough research. After all, your dissertation is all about doing thorough research.
