10. If you hold your event during the winter months in areas of the country that are likely to get snow, it's a good idea to clear an alternative "snow date" with the school calender as well as with the potential performer.

11. Have fun: You are in the powerful position of creating an event that will likely be remembered for the rest of your audience's lives. I still remember the family concert I saw with my parents when I was 8 featuring folk singer & storyteller Pete Seeger. I remember holding my dad's big warm hand and the delight of being invited to participate in sing-a-long. In fact it was so powerful that today I do what I do because of that moment. So focus on that. Also remember that the cultural experience you provide the kids and families at your school may be one of the very few live performances they will ever attend.

So, thank you for volunteering! You are making a positive difference in the lives of others.
