I have found, over the years, that pet owners are a rather unique group of people, with their own idiosyncrasies and ways of dealing with the world.  Different pet owners will prefer to own different types of pets, and treat them in widely different ways.  This also goes for the selection and use of various types of pet accessories such as pet toys, bedding, clothing, etc. One interesting area of comparison is in the selection and use of various pet carriers.

For example, there is the very practical airline traveler.  This individual will typically purchase a practical pet travel carrier -- one  that is approved for use by the particular airline carrier they most often do business with.  This type of individual is not so much interested in appearance or fashion, but chooses a pet travel carrier solely on the basis of whether it meets the requirements of their airline.  Generally these folks will choose an airline approved pet carrier made from lightweight and sturdy plastic, and an increasing number of them will also purchase a pet carrier with wheels, as these types make it very easy to transport an animal through large airline terminals.

The next type of pet owner is one who will choose a backpack pet carrier -- these folks are generally free spirits, and oftentimes don't have much money to spend, and backpack pet carriers seem to appeal to these bohemian types more than other models.  In fact, the backpack pet carrier is most often seen among the young, or young at heart, who certainly fit this particular personality profile.  The backpack pet carrier is also favored by elementary and high school-age students when they need to transport their favorite pet.

Then there is the family-oriented pet owner -- they will oftentimes need a pet carrier that can be used to transport a number of different family animals.  These people choose to purchase and use a soft pet carrier -- these are different than the typical hard plastic pet carriers -- they are much lighter and easier to handle, as well as being very easy to clean.  Some models of soft-sided pet carriers can also double as a pet dog home and are very useful to take along when the family goes camping -- a favorite activity of this group of pet owners.

Lastly, is the fashionista pet owner.  These folks would not be satisfied with purchasing your run-of-the-mill pet carrier -- they have to purchase a luxury pet carrier.  Not satisfied with just providing basic transportation for their pet, they will purchase the latest and most expensive fashionable pet carrier -- they are hoping that these stylish pet carriers will serve to set their pet, and themselves as well, off from the rest of the crowd.  These are the same type of pet owners that will purchase diamond chokers and rhinestone-studded leashes for their pets, as well.

Yes, after looking carefully around, I have come to the conclusion that you can tell a lot about a pet owner from their choice of pet accessories -- including pet carriers.
