I have been through the mill over the past 7 years or so, using, sampling, and buying all kinds of PC Security Software for my personal home use. Back in the mid and late 90’s I had little to no concern for the threats that where out there. Sure I knew of them and what they could do but in those days the threats where nothing like they are today.

Just having a computer connected to the internet these days can pose serious danger to you and your business if you own or operate one. As I stated I didn’t get serious about PC Protection until the turn of the century and I did only then because while attending school for web design I met an interesting group of characters all of whom showed me what they could do to computers they managed to gain access too.

Back then however a simple virus scanning application was the extent of my PC Security. After spending some time in class with these people I went home and began using Norton Antivirus 2000. That was as comprehensive and complex as it got back in those days. With an updatable list of definitions I guess one might say the program got me excited.

As time passed I watched as my Security Management software became increasingly ineffective in the fight against online threats such as Zero day attacks and even simple spyware and malware. Mind you Norton did what it was supposed to do and did it well but my needs where increasing so I began to search for an application that would not only clean out my system but keep it clean as well so that I didn’t have to spend extra time removing and locating threats manually.

I began my quest for the ultimate solution by doing some very detailed Security Research. I searched for roughly six weeks before I settled on three different programs, two of which have become popular standards these days. I utilized these three programs for the next five and a half years until they too began to lose some of their functionality. It was then in 2005 that I began searching for an Endpoint Security application that would not just detect infections and threats but detect 100% of these threats and have the ability to remove them as well. These are things my five year old applications could not and where not designed to do.

I ended up coming across a company called eEye who specializes in the analysis and prevention of security vulnerabilities in software. Right away I noticed that they where offering a Free Antivirus Software called Blink Personal Edition. I downloaded it without researching it and was pleasantly surprised. Blink was easy to set up and use and found a good deal more infections on my drives than any other program had. It also had no problem quarantining and removing them which was a welcome change and surprise. I was so pleased that I upgraded this piece of Security Management software and was then surprised again that along with the upgrade came the ability to run a Vulnerability Assessment test.

By far and large Blink has been not only my favorite Internet Security application its also outperformed all others I’ve had the privilege to work with. Though I only have the one computer and it’s in my living room it’s nice to let a program like Blink keep the trash out and forget for a while that there are threats looming out there.
