I recently attended a seminar-conference on IT Security. The main focus of the conference where to show how Security Management software has changed and in some cases been circumvented over time. There was also heavy focus on how difficult it can be to keep up with new threats and attacks. There were many speakers but just a couple that really stood out and instead of trying to sell a product simply shared valuable information with those in attendance.

The first speaker that left an impression on me explained that a good majority of both home users as well as business users leave their Computer Network Security applications as they originally came and never perform updates to ensure they have the most comprehensive security available. I found this rather surprising even though I was the type of person he spoke about. As an IT professional I should know better than to leave my home computer so open. It was a real kick in the back side however and really opened my eyes to the importance of not just keeping definitions updated but the software as well. As time rolls on we do kind of forget that software needs updating regularly. He then demonstrated the type of zero day attacks and the amount of spyware and back door programs designed to penetrate outdated program. These programs are a major player in things like identity theft and data file corruption. Those with little to no Desktop Security like me are often victims of such attacks as files and data are stolen very quietly while we browse the internet. Needless to say when I arrived back home I immediately updated both my virus definitions and the software to which they are associated with.

The second speaker that made an impression on the crowd spoke of many of the same things though he stressed that these days it is often necessary to utilize not just one piece of PC Security Software but several as many are only programmed to deal with specific threats. There are also cases he stated that additional programs will need to be used in order not to detect threats and infections but to remove them. Though we do this in the office as part of our network security measures, it’s not something I really gave much thought to in regards to my home computer. He also stressed the need for Vulnerability Assessment no matter what type of network you run and even for individual computers functioning alone.

I really took what these two gentlemen said to heart especially when thinking of pc security for my home. When I arrived home I also began looking for newer and time tested Endpoint Security applications that would allow me to do everything in one all inclusive program. As much as he stressed the need for multiple program use he also stated that finding a program that does it all in one punch is a much better solution than the latter.

I began my Security Research online looking at what must have been close to a hundred different Computer Security applications all of which claimed to end the need to use more than one security program. I came across a good number of Free Antivirus Software download during my search and all but one program failed to deliver what it claimed to. That one program was Blink Personal Edition by eEye. In the event you’ve yet to hear of eEye they are a company who specializes in analysis and prevention of security vulnerabilities in software and offers the most comprehensive security tools I’ve seen to date.

When I tested them next to each other, Blink not only detected infections and threats that my other programs did not but it eliminated them without requiring any reboots or re-scans. Its intrusion prevention tools were equally impressive. In fact I was so impressed with this that I upgraded it to the Professional Edition the next day. This little program has since kept my computer free from the usual garbage that finds its way onto my home machine. I finally feel like I have found the PC Security software I’ve been looking for. You can visit eEye and download blink at the following address. http://www.eeye.com
