Most internet users feel safe and don’t often worry about things such as zero day attacks yet those types of attacks along with both spyware and malware are always waiting for just the right user to come along and unknowingly invite them into their computers. Having spoken with and knowing a number of casual non tech savvy users I can tell you that when you bring up the topic of Internet Security they will often give you a look of either disconcert or will sit scratching their heads wondering what just what you are speaking of.
I am the computer guru in my family and am often asked to install, put together, troubleshoot and even fix computer problems for my mother, father, grandparents, and even my wife. I enjoy working with and on computers so it’s never a hassle but what gets old is getting calls about what turns out to be the same problems as before.
The majority of the time I work on a family members computer the problem turns out to be a virus or spyware or some remote Trojan that got installed during browsing or after being fooled into visiting a specific site or opening an email. It is for those reasons that I began to bring tools with me that allow me to run a Vulnerability Assessment test so that I know what I’m dealing with. After that I usually install and sometimes reinstall some type of PC Security Software on these machines and try to teach that remember of my family how to update the application and how to run simple scans and what not. They always promise they’ll remember and run it at least twice a week but it never seems to happen.
As viruses and back door programs designed for data and identity theft become more complex and continue to wreak havoc on my family’s computers I’ve added a new weapon to my arsenal that has helped me as of late, get in, fix the problem, and get out. No more 2 am drives home for me thank to Blink Personal Edition. As I stated they all promise to scan their PC’s regularly yet they never do thus resulting in another phone call to my cell phone. It is for this reason that I began looking for a Security Management tool that would not only be easy enough for my family to understand and utilize but one that delivers excellent intrusion prevention measures and runs quietly in the background.
Well once I began my Security Research it didn’t take me long to come across the eEye website. In case you’ve not yet heard of them eEye is a company that specializes in analysis and prevention of security vulnerabilities in software. They also make and sell top notch Endpoint Security programs for both home and business use. I was pretty intrigued at what I saw on their site and ended up getting their Free Antivirus Software download, which was Blink Personal.
I spent a couple of days trying Blink out and was very surprised to find that it did what all of my other security programs did but did it only in one program. The intrusion prevention tools within this application are simply phenomenal as they keep out the majority of threats and protect from attacks so when I do run scans, they usually don’t turn up much because there’s just not much for it to find.
After testing Blink Personal and falling in love with it, I ended up upgrading it to the professional edition since I run a small business from out of my home. I also took this nice little Security Management software to all of my family. I did a weeks worth of installs, configurations, and scans for my entire family all of whom recently haven’t called me with any slow down problems, or pop ups, or things like that. I’d be willing to be too that these types of calls will become scarce thanks to Blink.
