Photographing and video taping your home and belongings will also help you to prepare mentally for a disaster because you will have the security of knowing these things have been documented for insurance and replacement purposes. Copies should be kept in several locations such as a bank box, in fire and water proof boxes in your home, and with your insurance provider. Just relieving yourself from the stress of having to worry about these things when a disaster hits, by taking care of them now will help you to mentally prepare ahead of time for most any disaster.

Placing large, luminescent numerical for your street address high up on your home will help authorities to find you in the event of a disaster. Prepare yourself mentally that it could be awhile before rescue and other authorities can reach you due to adverse weather conditions or other obstacles between them and your home. A good portion of mentally preparing yourself for a disaster is thinking, planning, and making preparations such as a disaster kit and disaster plan well in advance of a disaster striking. It also involves your active choice to remain as calm as possible and not react to any panic you may be experiencing in a disaster.
