SEO search engine optimisation is the name given for any method that will ensure that a website gains a high ranking on a search engine. If a person is in business and relies on traffic from a website to generate income then it is very important that the website gets a lot of visitors, or hits. Just creating and publishing a website is not enough to get a high ranking on a search engine and as a result there are a few ways of helping your website to be getting a first page position on a search list. Here the best ways of making sure a website has good SEO

•Keywords. These are within the SEO text on a website and they are certain words or phrases that are likely to be used by a person searching for a particular product, service or subject. These keywords do not have to be lengthy or hard to understand, but the must be relevant. By using a keyword in the right density you are maximising its ranking. A good density for a keyword is between 1-3% although some will argue it can be as high as 5%. Generally speaking anything more than this will be seen as keyword stuffing and as a result will not read naturally and a search engine will reject the ebsite.

•Meta tags. These are a short description of the text contained on a site that can help the search engines spiders when they are crawling sites for a search. They will also contain keywords that are relevant and are easily picked up on. One mistake that many websites make it omitting these meta tags and this can have a serious impact on the ranking of a website.

•Links. By using links on your website to other reputable websites you can have links and back links from those websites back to yours. It is a way of trading or sharing, visitors between similar websites. This can bring a lot of traffic your way that may have previously bypassed your site. It is important however, from an SEO viewpoint that you only have links and back links to reputable sites. Many websites will try to get links to them on your sites through forums and comments pages. It is important that you check these links regularly to avoid any misleading or ‘black hat’ techniques being used.

•Have a good URL. This will make life a lot easier for people who want to return to your website if they have not put it on their favourites list. A URL that is short and easy to remember makes good SEO sense. Come up with one for your website that is short, easy to remember and relevant! There are several online facilities to check if you can use a URL that you have thought up.

•Use good headings. Headings are also searched by engines so make yours

count.

•Have original content. This is often overlooked but content that is fresh and new will always get a good ranking and will mean that you are not accused of cutting and pasting from elsewhere. Once again there are online tools to check for this.

If these rules are followed you will find that you have SEO content on your website that ensure a high ranking in searches and makes visitors want to return. If you are in business online and want to stay successful it is worth taking a look at the content of your site and making sure it is original and accessible to the reader.
