For people considering the option of having a heated pool they have basically three choices and those choices are gas electric and solar. With green technology becoming more and more popular and excessive consumption of energy resources being considered less socially acceptable than it was in the past, more pool owners are now expressing an interest in solar technology.
There are a few facts to consider regarding solar technology when it is used for heating pools. The first thing that one must consider is that is has to be relatively sunny for the pool to be heated to a large measurable degree. This isn't to say that they don't work on cloudy days, it just means that you aren't going to have a hot steamy pool on a cold winter day with even the best solar technology.
However; there are some excellent solar pool heating systems available that work great and they will also include an insulated pool cover. Solar systems as a general rule are going to cost more then a standard gas or electric heating system but over the long term they will return measurable savings for obvious reasons.
The decision to go solar can be a hard one to make for a lot of people, because its just so much easier to have a gas or electric heating system installed, because aside from being cheaper, solar systems take up a lot of room. However; before you go with a conventional pool heating system you have to be prepared for the energy bills that you are going to be encountering. Far too many pool owners now have gas or electric heating systems that they no longer use, because they found out the hard way that it takes a lot of energy to heat a swimming pool full of water.
