There are many different designs of compact digital cameras being offered, and as many camera bags for that camera. You want to put as much thought and research into the bag as the camera. After all, without a quality camera case, there is no protection for any of your equipment.
The first thing you want to consider is how and where you use your camera. Are you an indoor or outdoor photographer, or both? Do you take your pictures in a structured environment or do you photograph out in the elements? Do you enjoy photographing still lifes or the view from the top of that mountain you just climbed? Your answers to questions such as these will determine the features you may want to look for in your camera bag.
Next, consider the accessories you plan on putting in your case. If you plan on taking along your mini digital camera, slimline cellphone, iPOD and other small equipment, a compact case will be perfect. Little pockets for carrying memory cards and extra batteries is an added bonus. Even though it's small, it still needs to have all those features you want. Remember, the primary two purposes of the camera bag are to carry and protect your camera and accessories.
Select a case that has a very soft lining, which will help keep your delicate equipment from getting scratched, especially the camera's sensitive LCD screen. Another important protective material to look for is a dense foam, which absorbs the shock, if your camera case is dropped. What could turn out to be a critical feature for that mountain climber! Protection comes from the outside, too. Make sure the camera bag is made of a quality, water resistant material. If you are frequently out in the elements, look for a bag that is constructed with a protective rainflap to offer added protection.
Ease of carrying is something often overlooked when selecting a camera bag. A quality bag will offer different options for carrying the case. Most all have a handle at the top but, for the outdoor enthusiast, that isn't always convenient. Look for a case that has alternative carrying modes. Belt clips and shoulder straps are two features that would make carrying the camera bag much more convenient when the photographer is involved in activities such as hiking.
Always look for a company that stands behind their product with a lifetime warranty. And, take the time to read the reviews on the camera bag you're considering. You can get a wealth of knowledge from your fellow photographers.
