5 Eating Habits that Can Lower Stress

Think the only way to cope with stress is to hit the kitchen for some of you're favorite ice cream? We often console our selves through rich comfort foods but seldom do we take a proactive stance against our negative emotions. Next time you're looking for a boost consider reaching for the fruit basket or switching to decaf tea instead of coffee. These changes as well as other can help you live a healthier life while working to decrease stress. Following these tips and making the necessary changes to you're diet diet and you'll notice a difference in the way you feel

  1. Eat Some Red Meat

    Eat red meat? So many of us are in a rush to remove the steak from out plates that we take for granted the positive effects red meat can have on the body. Make it a point to occasionally indulge in a steak and you'll be happy you did. Beef is packed with iron, Vitamin B and zinc, all of which can work to decrease you're stress levels. While it is good for you in small doses, red meat can increase the risk of heart disease and high cholesterol so eat it in moderation and always choose lean cuts.


  2. Cut Back on the Coffee

    Sure that morning cup of coffee can help jolt you into another day at the office but it's also adding to your stress levels. Caffeine directs your body to release stress hormones which ultimately add up and leave you're body feel like it's constantly in a state of stress. Limiting you're caffeine intake will cut back on the amount of these hormone you're adrenal glands produce therefore leaving you feeling less than stressed.


  3. Drink a Glass of Milk

    Adding milk to you're daily diet is a great way to get what you're body needs to keep you cool. A glass of milk will supply you're body with antioxidants, B vitamins, protein, and calcium, all of which are important to your existence. Even a bowl of cereal with ½ a cup of milk can help you start you're morning or end you're evening on the right foot.


  4. Snack on Some Blueberries

    Blueberries are a great way to fight off the blues. These dark blue berries are full of those antioxidants that keep you're body happy and healthy. They are also a nutritious way to snack and can go great in everything from summer salads to yogurt.


  5. Go Fishing

    Fish, specifically Tuna and Salmon are meal time editions that will keep you on the track to a stress free day. These specific types of fish are packed with B vitamins that boost you're serotonin levels warding off depression. Try replacing poultry or meat with fish at least two times a week and you'll be on the way to happier and healthier living.


  6. Switch to Whole Grain Carbs

    Most carbs will give you that little boost you need but the type of carb is really important for long lasting satisfaction. While white breads and simple carbs will leave you with a small boost followed by a crash, heartier or complex whole grain carbs will give you the boost you need without the down time. Use whole grain breads, rices, and pastas to prepare you're meals and your body and mind will thank you.
