Tubal Ligation is a medical procedure with the help of which a woman gets the fallopian tubes tied and thus restricts prospects of getting pregnant. But almost around 25 percent of women, who had got sterilization method done, regret their decision later on and go for Tubal Sterilization Reversal. Tubal reversal surgery is a major one and the procedure normally takes around two to three hours at the least. This procedure is done with the help of general anesthesia. The main function of doctors here is to make functional the fallopian tubes which had been cut, tied or blocked by some device. This surgery requires you to stay at hospital for least at least a period of three to five days. Recovery period is not long. The patient can get back to normal daily activities with in around two to three weeks of the operation. All major surgeries have some kind of complications associated with them. The same is true for tubal reversal surgery also. Although the side effects are minimal, some women may face minor problems such as bleeding or infections due to anesthesia, or damage to the surrounding organs after the surgery. But now with major developments in microsurgery this operation can be performed in much lesser time. It takes only around one hour now. Nowadays only one local anesthesia is used. This development in microsurgery had made this operation far less invasive than the traditional tubal reversal surgery. Thus complications and side effects of surgery are also reduced to a greater extent nowadays. Not every woman who had done tubal ligation can get it reversed. There are many factors that need to be considered. First the doctor will examine the condition of your fallopian tubes. He will look at surgery and pathology reports from where the woman had got done her tubal sterilization. The doctor looks at how the surgery was done, whether it was cut, tied, or blocked non-surgically. The health of the fallopian tubes, the amount of fallopian tubes that is left after sterilization are some of the important factors which would be considered before the reversal procedure. Finally the doctor also looks at your age. Only after analyzing all these factors, a doctor would make his decision to take next step. Various factors such as the procedure used for reversal, age of the woman and many more would decide how much prospects for pregnancy are left. Women who are younger than 40 years and had done sterilization by the traditional method of Tubal Ligation have around 80 to 85 percent chances of getting pregnant again. They get pregnancy within the first year itself. While, women who had done Tubal sterilization through microsurgery have a slightly higher chances of getting pregnant. So, several factors would decide the success rate of tubal sterilization reversal procedure.
