Ask anyone who does kitchen design for a living, and you will find that the most important consideration or the biggest problem is always one of space. No matter what you do there always seems to be a lack of space in the kitchen, and there is always a struggle to make the most of what is available. One of the ways of doing this is to use counter depth refrigerators, since these can really help you to make the most of the space you have available. This article will look at a few points to bear in mind before you go ahead and order your appliance.

As mentioned above, a counter depth refrigerator can give you more space, simply because it can go beneath the worktop, which means the space above it can be used to great advantage, either for storing things or for using it as a workspace. The thing is though, you need to decide exactly what type of countertop refrigerator you're going to buy, and this will depend very much on your situation.

One of the most common types is a compact refrigerator with a freezer, which essentially means a refrigerator that has a small freezing compartment, usually at the top. There have been great strides made in the design of these models in recent years, and although they are very small you can often get far more foodstuffs into there than at first seems. The main problem with these types of models is that the freezer is still very small, and although this may be fine for a small apartment, especially in one inhabited by a single person, it can be quite difficult if not impossible to use if you have more than one person or a family.

However there is an answer to this problem and that is to use a side by side refrigerator. These are essentially a refrigerator at one side and a freezer at the other, which means they are still small enough to fit beneath the counter, and therefore enable you to make the most of the space above them, and yet give you a fully functioning refrigerator and freezer into the bargain. There are now some really nice designs of these types of models, and you are sure to find one that will fit in with the overall design of your kitchen. They are more expensive than the usual compact refrigerator, but if you have a family and want to make the most of your space they can be an excellent choice.

As you can see, there are now quite a few options to save space in the kitchen when it comes to buying the refrigerator. Take time to look at them and make sure that you get the best model for your needs and your situation.
