You’ve worked your brains out and you’ve worked over time than usual and you’ve contributed a considerable increase in sales, but then, somebody got the position you’ve been working hard for the last year and still you didn’t get it, what would you do?

The average advice would be when you don’t get promoted is to be a good sport, right? But what does it really mean to be one? Let’s admit it, deep inside us we do feel really bad and we can’t help but to be bitter when we don’t land the job we know we deserve. Well, let’s be brutally honest to ourselves, at least in this post.

We go through a sort of grieving phase and there are ways to get over the feeling of rejection.

1. Eat your comfort food. Now is the perfect excuse to get indulge on your comfort food which adds to your calorie count. The operative word, comfort, brings about a sense of positivity that even if you didn’t get the position, there are still things to be thankful about, food as one of them. 2. Spend a day out of the house and travel. Hiding from everybody inside the four corners of your house can actually make you feel worse and more alone and left out. So, why not travel and spend some of the hard-earned salary at a worthwhile getaway? But if you’re the money saver type, you can still travel through online contests such as this latest free trip to Australia. 3. Make a list of your achievements. This is like a self-patronizing exercise. Noting down your accomplishments on the job will definitely make you feel good about yourself and realize that you are good at what you do. And knowing that you’re good will bring the self-esteem levels up a hundred notches. 4. Go to the spa. The benefits of a day at the spa can’t be denied. It rejuvenates your mind and takes away the dead skin cells that are the result of your sleepless nights because of long nights at the office. Get a wrap or scrub and see how your body is refreshed which will make you ready for a brand new day at the office. 5. Buy yourself the thing you have been delaying to buy. For sure, you have one thing on your must-have list that you still don’t have because of so reasons you only know. So, why not buy it now? It’s a bad thing that you didn’t get the promotion, it will be worse not to get that thing you’ve been saving up to buy. 6. Give hints that you’re leaving. This may be seen as blackmailing move, but the key is to be subtle. It’s just a way of making the bigwigs realize what they’re losing. Don’t forward a resignation letter. I know no one’s indispensable but if you truly are an asset to the company, it’s time to make them feel how valuable you are. 7. Do a minor makeover. A makeover here means upgrading your office wardrobe to a more smart and sophisticated look. If you didn’t get the part, at least look like the part. Adding a few smart clothes and making yourself more presentable and knowledgeable will make you feel more energetic to work and they will begin to look at you more seriously. But don’t over dress. Just have a more polished look.

At the end of the day, you still have to go to work and face the fact that someone else got the position and that someone isn’t you. It’s ok to be sad and bitter and feel resentful to your boss for sometime. But don’t let that resentment get the best of you and ruin your performance at work. After all, there’s always another position, or other jobs for that matter.

Two years of endless saving of every penny finally paid off and she was able to work as a production assistant in a locally-run tv station where she travelled with the crew to different states in this beautiful country.
