If you've recently gotten one of those new digital camcorders, you have doubtlessly come close to filling up the storage capacity of your camera, or have uploaded the video to your computer and are wondering how to get all of this video off of your hard drive and onto DVD. Obviously, you're going to need some camcorder to DVD video editing software. The relatives would surely appreciate a DVD of the family vacation, some video of the new dog or cat and so on. Which begs the question, how can you do this? Worse yet, you want to edit these videos first to eliminate all of those parts where nothing of note happens. First off, if you have a DVD camcorder, you don't even have to connect a cable between camera and computer. Just remove the DVD from the drive on your camera and place into the optical drive on your computer. Of course then you will need a program which can extract (or "rip") the video data from the DVD. Note: the files on the disc that you're interested in are the .VOB files, which contain the actual video. You can safely disregard the rest of the files on the DVD.

Once you've gotten your data off of the DVD (or uploaded via cable), you're ready to do some camcorder to DVD video editing. Camcorder to DVD video editing software on the market (or internet, as the case may be). You're going to need to use some software to convert these .VOB files to .mpeg, a format which can be worked with by camcorder to DVD video editing software, then burned onto a DVD.
Once you have your video in .mpeg, there are many options for editing: MovieMaker or i Movie for Windows and MAC OS, respectively, well known software packages like Avid or it's "non-pro" version Pinnacle Studio, even Linux users can get in on the camcorder to DVD video editing game with CinePaint. Do a little research, evaluate your needs and then armed with that information, you'll have no trouble finding the right software for your video.
