Calorie Shifting Diet

With 65% of Americans having been categorized as obese, losing weight is a subject that is often discussed but not always acted upon. Much of this is because traditional diets generally involve giving something up or sticking to unsavoury dieting fads that are enough to put anyone off losing weight.

For a long time dieting gurus and their hapless clients have used calorie counting as a means of losing weight. However, research tends to suggest that calorie counting alone doesn’t work for many dieters – this is largely because we all have different metabolic rates i.e. the rate at which our bodies burn calories, and to some extent this defines what your calorific content should be.

If you want to lose weight then you should set yourself a goal of how much weight you want to lose. In order to reach that goal; what you really need is a diet that is neither low fat, low carb nor low calorie. Rather than lowering your calorie intake you need to shift them, a calorie shifting diet involves changing your eating habits by rotating them – what that means is that the dieter should not be using a set eating pattern.

The body all too easily becomes accustomed to a set eating pattern, continually changing that pattern means that the body can’t get used to it and it has to burn more fat in order to keep up with itself. A calorie shifting diet is not all that easy because of the modern tendency to eat ready meals and take outs. When you are calorie shifting you should always eat meals that are prepared at home and you should use meal plans.

With this diet you don’t get to eat three meals a day, you get four! You choose 14 of your favorite foods and 11 meal plans are then devised from these. Every day you should rotate your daily meals and your intake of carbohydrates. When you are calorie shifting you need to drink plenty of water and avoid sugary foods and drinks. You also have to learn to know when to stop eating; most importantly you should get proper exercise as dieting alone will not help you reach whatever your weight loss goal might be.

When you use the calorie shifting program to lose weight you are provided with meal plans that are constructed from your 14 favorite foods. By rotating your meals so that the body does not get used to a routine of eating something you will start to lose weight. Weight loss should never be measured by a weighing machine alone because everyone’s weight varies at certain times of the day, depending on how much water you are carrying at the time. When you are dieting you should measure your waist and hips on a regular basis as this will give you a better idea of your weight loss. Calorie shifting works because it doesn’t deprive your body of the nutrients and number of calories that it needs because it doesn’t involve cutting out carbs or fats. You will lose weight gradually, one and a half to two pounds a week doesn’t sound like much but it is a safe way to lose weight and over time the lost pounds add up.
