With a throbbing population of over 8 million, New York City is one of the largest urban areas in the world. More than a third of its population is born in other countries, and it is no surprise that New York is a melting pot of diverse cultures and ways of life. People who man important positions in public service are always on their toes to offer assistance whenever required with minimum response-time. Seen from this angle, New York nursing jobs not only provide opportunities to aspirants, but also offer challenges to overcome and excel.

To say that New York nursing jobs demand efficiency and willingness to deliver the best is not a deviation from truth. Let us see what some unique features of New York nursing jobs are:

• With the exception of Staten Island, each of the 4 other boroughs of the city accommodates more than a million residents, which means each of them may as well be considered as a big city, if taken independently. The more the population, the more is the requirement of skilled jobs, such as nursing.

• The city is spread over 321 square miles. New York nursing jobs therefore call for conformity and adaptability to cater to varying needs of the dense population of the city.

• New York is nerve-center of international finance, fashion, entertainment, and culture. It is also home to the headquarters of the United Nations. Because of this, the city always has a large floating population in addition to its own populace. This is all the more reason that New York nursing jobs abound in order to effectively serve the city’s various top-class healthcare facilities.

• Being the foci of multifarious activities, there is a constant rush of immigrants to the city from all over the globe, not to mention the people from other parts of the United States who come for its culture, energy, cosmopolitanism, and economic opportunity. Great amount of economic activity means that there is a constant demand for skilled persons in various disciplines including nursing jobs.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that employment for Registered Nurses (RNs) is likely to outpace average growth for all occupations up to 2008. As is the case in most big metropolis, there will be continuing uptrend for New York nursing jobs too in the quest for quality nurses for a variety of reasons.

• Median age of US population is increasing. This is more evident in a big city like New York. Often, healthcare providers do not keep pace with its increasing demand. Thus the problems of understaffing and insufficient and outdated equipments remain prevalent in many hospitals and clinics. This calls for mature understanding and commensurate aptitude on the part of nurses, since they are directly involved in patients’ well-being.

• The current nursing workforce is aging. Over the next the decade or so, many are expected to retire from jobs. There will be need to fill the vacancies, which indicates that New York nursing jobs will see more and more new faces for a long time.
