How a Christian Business Event Saved My Soul

I do not write this to use my beliefs to market my business. I write this because I believe it to be the truth, and the truth will set you free. At least, it set me free.

My wife and I have been fairly active in our church over the many years we have been there now. At one point I had become extremely spiritual, very faithful to my beliefs, and a better person because of it.

About a year and half ago, something changed.

I cannot explain what it was, but I started changing. I found myself wanting to make excuses to not to go church. I started using words that I promised myself to never use again. I was angry and arrogant and oblivious to the fact.

This new attitude was starting to take a toll on my marriage. In the weeks leading up to the event my wife and I had many severe disagreements. We argued about things that made no sense to argue about. We were on edge with each other and began to notice a change with our children as well.

When a new business venture was launching, my wife encouraged me to go to the grand opening event. It was a business based on strong Christian virtues. In fact, the first and main core value was to build a company to glorify God. Still believing that I was still spiritual, and having a lot of faith in the president of this company, I decided to go (my wife actually had to take over my responsibility for a church function that weekend in order for me to go).

It was a "God thing" that I went.

Christianity is infectious. Its contagious. If you are around the right people with the right heart, its hard to not let it have an effect on you. That is what happened this weekend. After being around people with a humble heart and a strong Christian outlook on life, I started to reflect on myself.

That Saturday night, God started dealing with me in my hotel room.

I realized that I did not like the person I had become. My attitude was not only affecting my marriage and relationships but it was affecting my walk with my Savior. I immediately repented and asked God to break me of this mindset.

I had to make things right with my wife but knew that I would not be able to talk to her on the phone about it immediately. I wrote her an email, asking her forgiveness, and letting her know the transformation that had occurred in my life that weekend. When we later talked, she could only cry, being thankful she made me attend the event.

I truly believe that God places opportunity in our lives for a reason. We know that all things work together for the good of those who love Christ; attending this event was no exception, as it kept me from continuing on a dangerous path.
