It is not surprising that one of the largest markets in the world of health and beauty is anti aging skin care products; as we are living far longer than previous generations it is a good idea to look after your physical appearance. This is done using skin care products that encourage the growth of the protein collagen which happens to be the main source of the protein used in the connective tissue of skin; collagen is so abundant, it makes up about a quarter of the total protein content of structural protein found in skin. Most anti aging cream (collagen included) fall into a category of natural everyday products we all use; we call them antioxidants, they aid the repair of cell damage associated with cell damage.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is probably one of the better known anti-oxidants in use today but the debate about the daily quota required is ongoing. Vitamin C formulated skin care treatments suffer with a particular problem of oxidizing on contact with the air which causes a problem for users and manufacturers.

To get around this some skin care treatments are based on derivatives of vitamin C, which are more stable and less expensive. However, these anti aging skin care treatments are not as effective vitamin C based products, although vitamin E and lipoic acid are also anti-oxidants and have similar effects.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant and is found in human blood, it helps build resistance against infection like cancer. Lipoic acid is also an energy making component of the body, found in every cell, it can also help reduce the aging process which affects the skin.

Other Compounds

The use of plants has not been overlooked either with many types able to provide essences called phytochemicals which have proved successful in anti aging cream. A secondary but more important use of phytochemicals is the effect they have on the prevention of breast, prostate and colon cancers.

It has also been discovered that there are anti aging benefits to vitamins B5, B6 and B12. The field of anti aging cream is vast and needs a great deal more research.

A great deal about the aging process has already been learned and the products available today are already far more advanced than ten years ago but there is still a long way to go. The amount of research going on in this field will undoubtedly bring results in time, hopefully bringing down the cost of these anti aging cream in addition to increasing their reliability.

Fortunately there is a number of natural anti aging regimes that can be carried out that do not rely on science. You know all these things but how many do you practice? Regular exercise, restful sleep, drinking plenty of water, eating a healthy diet and keeping your stress levels low are all necessary.
