When it comes to putting in the game of golf, the more relaxed, confident and balanced you are the easier it will be for you to say when putting, "just tap it in" and actually do it. Being able to achieve this state of mind will allow your putting game to be on more often than being off.

Putting is more than just luck and it is not an exact science. So is there any real key or secret to putting? Some say no while others say yes. I'm one that believes in the fundamentals, relaxation and practice, practice, practice. Through practice one is able to build a routine and using a routine one is able to become more relaxed with his routine. Once you are able to practice in a relaxed state you are able to understand and implement the fundamentals of putting to improve every aspect of your putting.

Tension can be the death of your game when it comes to putting. The simple fact is that the more relaxed you are the more accurate your putting shots will be. Trying to putt or even play the game of golf period when your muscles are tense and stiff is basically guaranteeing a high score. The more fluid and smooth your movements are the more putts you will sink. When your body is free of tension, your putting stroke is free and your confidence high.

Balance is another key component to putting. If you are fighting your tense muscles to try to stay balanced over a putt, everything from that point on is off and that includes your putt. You miss the putt and your muscles tense up even more. It really is like a snowball effect that can lead to an all out avalanche if allowed to. Having confidence in yourself and your game will allow you to achieve absolute relaxation. Absolute relaxation will allow you to improve every aspect of your game including putting. After all getting the ball in the hole is what it's all about.

Some will tell you to buy a new putter, change your stance and even to watch the pro's and do it like they do. The thing is that you can buy that new putter, get yourself a new stance and putt just like you think Tiger Woods does and still blow it when you walk on that green. If you are unable to control the tension in your body and the anxiety in your mind you will never be able to find a method of relaxation that will allow you to say when it comes to putting, "just tap it in". When you are able to achieve this state when you walk on the green you will putt more successfully and your confidence will soar.
