Jeep is always associated with off-road driving. Jeep parts are expected to be tough, capable of withstanding some of the worst road abuses. This common opinion about the jeep is justified, considering that the jeep is indeed generally used for off-road driving. Formerly, the jeep was a type of automobile that was particular to the military. The jeep was originally conceptualized as an all-terrain vehicle that is capable of traversing many types of obstacles. Hence, the jeep is a perfect battle field personnel vehicle. Top ranking military officials commonly use the jeep when inspecting their troops in the field. The association of jeep with the military left an indelible mark on the reputation of the jeep as a rugged vehicle.

The name "jeep" is both generic and specific. Generally, jeep refers to a particular body type. Most people are familiar with the boxy, broad and rugged appearance of the jeep. Most jeeps generally feature removable tops. The wide grille spaces are also some of the identifiable features of the jeep. On the other hand, jeep also refers to a particular automobile make. When referring to the specific automobile make, the name is rendered in first-letter capital. As a specific automobile make, the name "Jeep" is already a formal noun.

Contrary to popular views, the Jeep and the associated Jeep parts are not anymore limited to the stereotypical military jeeps. Basically, there are at least seven major Jeep models. These models include the Wrangler, the Wrangler Unlimited, the Commander, the Patriot, the Grand Cherokee, the Compass, and the Liberty. Basically, these different models can be classified into two main categories, namely, the classic open-top jeep and the close-SUV type. All of these models are elegant enough to be driven on urban streets but also rugged enough to be used in off-road driving.

Basically, the overall performance a jeep is dependent on two major groups of Jeep parts, namely, the engine parts and the suspension parts. Power, speed, mileage and torque are all dependent on the engine parts. On the other hand, when it comes to the issue of vehicle maneuverability and ride comfort, the suspension parts are the ones that are directly involved. Comparably, the different components of the jeep are not that different from the components of ordinary street vehicles. Nonetheless, there are certain parts that are uniquely identifiable with the jeep.
