Bone cancer is the malignancy in bones which occurs due to the problem with the cells that make the bones. In case of Bone cancer it is essential to differentiate if the cancer has spread from other site to bones or if it has been originated in the bone tissue. The distinction will correct the terminology and aid the accurate treatment options.

Bone cancer symptoms:
Pain is the most common symptom in bone tumors. The symptoms become more acute with time. At the initial stage, the patient suffers only at night while performing any activity. The symptoms may extend depending upon the growth of the tumor. There are cases where the affected may suffer for weeks, months and years, even before seeking medical attention. The affected person may experience a mass of lump either on the bone or in tissues surrounding the bone. This symptom is common with MFH or fibrosarcoma but can also be found in other bone tumors.

The pain may be accompanied with tenderness of bone by the tumor. There may be fracture in more than one bone even without noticeable trauma. Chills, fever, night sweats are some of the other Bone cancer symptoms. However, these symptoms are more common after the tumor spreads to other tissues of the body.

Bone Cancer Treatment
A number of methods have been discovered for the bone cancer treatment. The best bone cancer treatment is dependent on the location of the cancer, type of bone cancer, how aggressive the cancer is and whether or not the cancer has metastasized (invaded the surrounding or distant tissues).
The three major types of Bone Cancer Treatment are:
" Surgery
" Chemotherapy
" Radiation therapy
These types of treatments can be used either individually or by combining each other.
Surgery: The objective of surgery is to remove the tumor and the surrounding area of the normal bone. After the removal of the tumor the pathologist examines it to check if there is normal bone surrounding the tumor. This is done to determine if the portion of the cancer is still left since it can grow and spread needing further treatment. In recent times, the tumor is removed by the rim of normal bone instead of amputation. The surgeon replaces the location where the bone is removed with bone cement or a bone graft from other parts of your body or from the bone bank. If the larger areas are affected during the surgery, the surgeon may place grafts from bone banks or metal implants.
Chemotherapy is conducted by a medical oncologist. This method prevents the growth of the cancer cells by usage of various medications. Chemotherapy can be done after the surgery to get rid off the cancer cells left or it can be done before the surgery to shrink the tumor for convenience of the surgery.
The radiation oncologist can kill the cancer cells of the affected area by radiation therapy conducted by high-energy x-ray. This treatment is done in small doses regularly for a period of days or months.
