A major part of marketing strategies for most businesses these days is online marketing and its various techniques. This trend has been continuing for some time now, and the main methods used for the sales of products and services are Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM).
But why are these tools so attractive to the businessman? The answer to this question is that the results of utilizing SEO and SEM advertising (especially Pay Per Click) can be measured; therefore they can be controlled and modified to ensure more profits and less costs of using them.
Using a Pay Per Click (PPC) marketing campaign enables the businessman to get access to various statistics, and also generates sales almost right away. The campaign can be started or stopped at will, according to the current situation.
SECRETS
Secret 1: Online Strategy prior to commencement
There are various reasons why PPC is used; increasing sales, client leads, or brand consciousness. It is better to define the reason or reasons why PPC is to be used. After the decision, the channel should be chosen according to the future needs and expectations, as well as the budget, which in turn is allocated with respect to the profit margin of the products or services.
Secret 2: Website Preparation
There is very little time within which the visitor to your website has to be convinced to stay. If the website lacks the characteristics to enable the visitor to locate what he came for, there will obviously be no transactions and therefore no business for the merchant.
To prevent the visitor from leaving, some of the characteristics a website should have are as follows:
" Contain attractive images clearly and accurately representing the product, as well as satisfied and happy customers
" The website should not be cluttered with content which is both unnecessary and repetitive
" The visitors should be told what to do; call, make a purchase, etc
" The site content should occupy one frame only. If a visitor has to scroll a lot, there is a high probability he will leave
" The website should not be extremely flashy and animated. HTML should be used mostly

Secret 3: Starting Small
Mostly for PPC beginners, it is advisable not to start off too big. With the vast number of PPC search engines to choose from, companies make the mistake of selecting all of them. It is highly difficult to handle all these campaigns at one time because each one has separate rules. The right thing to do is selecting a single engine which correlates to the online strategy. After making sure it is working properly and effectively, other engines can be selected.
Secret 4: Trial
After a search engine is chosen, the next step is trying it out for a certain period of time. If it does not work as per your requirements, you can drop it whenever you want. The campaign results can be analyzed and steps can be taken to further improve the PPC campaign.
