Villa is a widely used term for a large house standing in its own grounds probably with a private swimming pool, the word itself has its origin from the Roman Empire where it was an upper class country dwelling, the term has changed over the years after the fall of the Roman Empire it became synonymous with a small farm almost certainly fortified.

The term itself has a different meaning in the Portuguese language it simply means large village or small town. However largely because of the Spanish property market people are referring to the word Villa as a certain type of house anywhere where there is sunshine.

If we suppose that Villas in Portugal are detached houses with land around them then Portugal does indeed have a lot of them, often beautifully situated on the coast and the increasingly popular inland areas, indeed the inland Villa or (correctly termed in Portuguese) Quinta is well priced in the market and while they often require a good rendering and a paint job to look like there Spanish counterpart the difference in price is more than enough to make them viable.

Portugal’s inland river system is also attracting a lot of attention and while Quintas are at a premium along the riverside they have to be seen to be truly appreciated the breathtaking views Crystal clear water and access to water sports of all sorts make them a real alternative to coastal property. More so in Portugal than in many other places as it is so often not safe to swim in theAtlantic on the west coast of Europe. The rough seas do of course make it a perfect place for surfers and you can find them all along the west coast of Portugal. The rivers however offer great bathing opportunity with warmer waters and less wind and natural beaches are being supplemented with Praia Fluvial which are man made recreation areas along the river banks.

If you are looking for this sort of property than I strongly recommend that you give central Portugal a look as it compares in beauty to just about anywhere, has the sunshine and at the moment at least you can still find a bargain so if Villas in Portugal is something you might type into your searches then consider this article.

Villas in Portugal is an an increasingly common search term on the search engines but what does it mean. http://www.perfectportugalproperty.co.uk
