I suppose one of the greatest miracles recorded in the books of the Old Testament is God's parting of the Red Sea (Exodus 14). However, the greatest miracle in the entire Bible is the Resurrection of Jesus Christ! Yes - it is Jesus' Resurrection that sets Christianity miles apart from all the religions of the world. (Christianity is not a religion...it is a relationship with a Person...the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ!) There are many religions in our world today and all but four of the major ones are based on feeble, philosophical suggestions. Of the four that are based on personalities rather than philosophical system ONLY Christianity boasts of an empty tomb and a resurrected Savior! Friend, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the very cornerstone of the Christian Faith and the foundation upon which His Church is built. On that first Easter morning, something happened that had never happened before in the history of the human race - a person came back from the dead, never to die again! But what difference does it make? It makes all the difference in the world! For one thing, it proved that Jesus was Who He claimed to be - the Son of God sent from heaven to redeem mankind from his sins. The Bible tells us, "And declared to be the Son of God with power...by the resurrection from the dead" (Romans 1:4). His victory over death was the paramount demonstration, as well as, the most conclusive evidence that He is God the Son! Also, Jesus' Resurrection tells us that there is life beyond the grave. This life is not all - when we die, we continue to live - in one of two places, either in heaven, the place of everlasting joy and peace or hell, the place of everlasting punishment. Jesus has opened the way to heaven for us by His death and resurrection. He said, "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die" (John 11:25-26). Because Jesus rose from the dead, the Christian's salvation is secure! This is God's promise to all who put their trust in Christ. Because of His Resurrection, death has been defeated and heaven awaits the believer.
What difference does the Resurrection of Christ make? The reliability of the Word of God depends on it. For Jesus, Himself, said that He would rise from the dead. "From that time forth began Jesus to show unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day" (Matthew 16:21). Also in Matthew 17:9, we read these words, "And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead." And then in Matthew 26:32, we find these words spoken by Jesus, "But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee."
Even though Jesus died for us on the cross, was buried and rose again the third day according to Scriptures, does not automatically make us a child of God. One becomes a Christian by willingly turning from sin and personally, by faith, trusting the Lord Jesus Christ as your own Savior. "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised heim from the dead, thou shalt be saved" (Romans 10:9). And, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Romans 10:13).
