Sometimes, I find myself stressing out over the wrong things. At other times, I find myself stressing out over things that don't matter in the grand scheme of things. At other times still, I stress out over things that I deem are really important to get right the first time, but that other people seem to just roll with.
For example, yesterday and today I participated in the squeeze-a-thon that Shawn Casey and Tellman Knudsen held. I stressed out about getting the squeeze page just right, when what mattered was that I PUT UP A SQUEEZE PAGE. They even gave me the template to use, yet I stressed out over how I was going to put the page together. They even had a video showing you what to do and how to do it, yet I still stressed out. I almost missed the entire event because I wanted things to be just right with my squeeze page.
I also stressed out today over my upcoming product launch, and how much work I still need to do. Today, when I was swimming, I thought about completely changing the scope of the product, but doing that would make me miss my launch deadline. Ultimately, what matters is that I launch with a product that people want to buy, not that I launch by a certain date with a product that no one wants.
Lastly, as a career techie, I worry about the technology behind my current products. I worry that the links for my videos and the videos themselves work properly, before I send out my links. Today, I received several broadcast emails from other much more experienced and successful people than me apologizing for mistakes and problem links in videos, on web pages and in databases. It just seems to me that something shouldn't go out the door unless it works right, but what do I know, I'm just a techie.
Anyway, the point of all this was simply to say that today I realized that stressing out, isn't going to get me anywhere. That I have my own standards, but they are my standards, and since they're my standards I can be flexible with them. I just need to keep my eye on the prize, be truthful, be honest and everything will be all right.
Cheers,
Rafael
