Matička Praha - 'little mother Prague' - was largely undamaged by WWII, and the cityscape is stunning. Its compact medieval centre remains an evocative maze of cobbled lanes, ancient courtyards, dark passages and churches beyond number, all watched over by an 1100-year-old castle. Probably a lot was written about this truly beautiful city and still reasons why Prague is so popular are quite simple. Strolling at cobblestone streets of the old town with great views at architecture buildings, churches and magnificent Castle make it believe. You can continue having a relatively cheap lunch or dinner at one of pubs accompanied with world famous Czech beer.
Later on cut the cost of an entrance ticket in a half to enjoy a classic music concert or for a younger crowd just clubbing and adoring beautiful Czech girls. When you get enough of tourist places just escape to peaceful leafy grounds of Vysehrad or Stromovka Park. Shopper lovers will not be left behind as often excellent and reasonably priced local goods swelling all the time. No matter if there is winter or summer, you will enjoy Prague at its best. You will fall in love with Prague, I promise!
Most people book ahead through agencies. However, many do take a chance and arrive in town hoping to find a place. Nowadays Prague hotels do tend to be booked during the season as at the moment there are not enough beds for the vast tourist influx. You might be approached at you point of entry by someone recommending (in broken German, probably) his relative's flat for the night and at a very reasonable price. In most cases this is quite a good bet as the 15 USD or so that they will charge you represents about 3 or four days of their normal work income, so they want you to be happy. There are some very nice hostels where you will have a sort of small, simply furnished but clean, suite of two or three rooms where, basically, you look after yourself. Lastly, the hotels. These range from simple, country style places to the grandeur that one expects in any major capital, but expect some rather grand pricing as well.
Prague is home to the world famous national theatre. It is one of the most beautiful buildings in the world and hosts some of the most famous plays, operas and operettas in the world. You can also explore Prague's history by visiting some of the castles and museums. History is a major asset of the Czech Republic as it has so much. Prague also has many Jazz bars and cultural centers. It is possible to claim that whoever comes to visit Prague as a tourist and stay in Prague hotel will not know what leisure time is. A sightseeing tour of the plentiful landmarks offered by the city and its immediate vicinity is a grand sportive feat. Everyday, innumerable cultural events take place in Prague and it is impossible to manage to see them all. If all this is not sufficient for anybody, there’s no need to despair. This city on the Vltava River contains other than traditional tourist destinations, as these pages will show.
