We all know that acne scarring can look extremely unsightly. However, what must be remembered is that apart from the physical manifestation it can have a huge impact upon the self-confidence of a person. This loss of self-esteem can last a lifetime.
Acne scarring is visible because, as with wrinkles, the scars are lower or deeper than the surrounding skin. Light casts shadows into the acne scars, making them even more visible. It is for this reason that acne scars can also be smoothed out to some extent with creams and fillers, exactly the same as wrinkles.
Acne is a skin complaint that is known the world over. Scarring of the skin is often the result of acne. There are many remedies on the market for acne itself and also for the scaring. One of the most well known treatments for acne scarring is dermabrasion, or in its lighter form, micro dermabrasion. The before-after difference following a dermabrasion treatment can be quite remarkable.
What is dermabrasion?
Dermabrasion is simply put, a procedure which utilizes manual abrasion of the skin to remove acne scarring. The damaged outer layers of skin are gradually removed . The skin then slowly regenerates over time. Full dermabrasion will be performed by a surgeon or doctor.
The procedure does not take very long, perhaps an hour or so, but it can be very painful. The physician attempts to make scars less apparent by sanding them using a small hand held rotational tool. The end of this tool has a metal wheel which has a rough surface. Before the procedure is carried out an aneshtetic must be given. This can be general or local. Afterwards, the patient's face will be red and raw.
Happily for many sufferers of acne scarring, dermabrasion of this type is not required. There are now available on the market a number of home products, often coming under the heading of micro dermabasion, which can be simply applied by the user in the comfort of their own surroundings. More severe cases do require an expert opinion but it can be worthwhile to try out the various store offerings first.
More about micro dermabrasion
Micro dermabrasion is really dermabrasion light. It has been referred to as the lunchtime facial!! As the name indicates micro dermabrasion limits itself to removing only the top skin layer. This then reveals the fresh undamaged skin below. The ease of the treatments mean that the face does not become sore in the same way as with a full dermabrasion procedure. Micor dermabrasion could be called a type of specialist exfoliation. It should leave the skin feeling cool and damp. Lines and of course can scarring are gradually reduced with treatment.
Final Thoughts
I started off this article by pointing out how physically and emotionally straining acne scarring can be. Fortunately modern advances have now put on the market a range of dermabrasion products that can make a huge difference to sufferers. More and more people are realizing that they do not necessarily have to have a painful visit to their doctor. Their before and after experience of using these dermabrasion products have proved very successful
