Realistically the U.S. sees 98% of its population with some sort of acne-related disorders at one point in their lives.  And acne vulgaris has become a high dollar business.  Because it affects personal appearance and not necessarily loss of life or limb, there are people on both sides of the spectrum not caring about the issue and others who furiously seek treatment of any kind to avoid or prevent this social  problem. Even those unhappy with their skin issues want at least some benefit from their topical or other treatments.  Which may explain the varied over the counter acne treatments in every drugstore and grocery store today.  Oh, if it were so easy! Today's desperate teenagers and adults squeeze, talk to and conjole their acne pimples in a bid to get rid of them only to be unsuccessful or worse, scarred for life.  Thus walks in the laser acne treatment.
Laser acne therapy is a relatively new and rather alternative method of dealing with acne and related skin problems.  Along with topical therapeutics, the laser has come to be accepted as a bonafide treatment method.  The early laser acne treatment systems were not much more than light based therapy that users took advantage of with minimal results 2-3 times per week for 2-3 months.  Results were unpredictable and a more robust method was sought. Finally 2002 saw the advent of a genuine smoothbeam laser approved by the FDA and dermatologists nationwide.  To understand how these lasers function it's first important to understand a little about acne vulgaris. One of the common causes of acne involves the sebaceous glands which over produce oil because of hormone imbalances.  So the laser used for acne situations specifically targets these glands and helps reduce the production of this bacteria-laden oil. As with most lasers, care should be taken to not damage the skin in the process so protective medicated sprays accompany the beam of light. Compared with the standard soaps and other topical acne treatments on the market (both over the counter and prescription),  the laser acne treatment has higher rates of success. Close to 95% of patients who have experienced laser acne therapy have shown results after the very first session and that's including victims with heaver scarring and lesions from previous breakouts.
