Adolf Hitler could have been the very first owner of customized Beetle when he asked Ferdinand Porsche to redesign his own 1931 beetle. In fact, the beetle design could have been directly credited on Adolf Hitler’s account. With his close ties with Hans Ledwinka and Ferdinand Porsche, his longing has finally become an international icon. With Porsche using original Volkswagen parts, Hitler’s concept of the "People’s Car" was finally publicized in 1938, following the creation of the Volkswagen mbH. However, the first Volkswagen cars were not used commercially but rather, were deployed for military use when the war broke in 1939.

Today, for 7 consecutive decades, the basic design of the beetle has never been altered. It still maintains the round roof designs and the protruding headlight designs. Not to redress some of the distinct individuality of each model, every release of the Beetle was particularly named according to the number of prototype design, post war models and engine sizes. This resulted to the proliferation of the 1200, 1300 and 1500 Volkswagen Beetle. Despite the company’s move for refinements, several exclusive and original Volkswagen parts were still used.

Volkswagen cars were too popular and quality proven that in 1938, Porsche car introduced the Porsche 64 which use some Volkswagen parts. The relationship of Porsche and Volkswagen was unbreakable especially when this corroboration was repeated in 1969 for the creation of the VW-Porsche 914 and 914-6. Several decades later, the tandem again relived when Cayenne model of Porsche was built on a VW Touareg chassis. Today, Porsche has invested a share in Volkswagen’s ventures and had helped the latter bounce back to the mainstream.

Volkswagen this year has introduced several car models in different continents and regions. In North America, Volkswagen markets the Rabbit, GTI, Jetta, New Beetle, Passat, Touareg, Tiguan, Routan and Eos. In the coming years, Volkswagen plans to release their new hybrid cars and eventually double the manufacturing of Volkswagen parts to answer the ever rising claims on replacements as production increases. In one way or another, these moves of the company proves that Volkswagen is still one of the worlds favorite car makes.
