When it is time to pick up your kitten, try to do this early in the day so the kitten has plenty of time to settle into its new home. Be sure to ask the seller what feeding regimen the kitten is familiar with. Stick to this for a week, and then gradually make any desired changes. This will remove the risk of an upset stomach due to the sudden upheaval in the kitten's life. You will also need the kitten's vaccination certificates, and its pedigree and registration transfer forms if these are applicable.

If the journey home is a long one, take the carry box, or a cut-down cardboard box, lined with toweling for the kitten to sleep on. It may be sick so be prepared for this. Have water and maybe some dry cat food with you, and make periodic stops so its stomach has a few minutes rest from the vehicle's momentum, which it will not be used to.

It would also be wise to take a litter tray, on long journeys. Once back at home, you can start by letting the kitten explore the kitchen. It might appreciate some water and may be even be hungry. It may also wish to have a sleep. Do not let children pester it. It will urinate very soon after it has drank, been to sleep, or been playing, and will want to defecate shortly after eating. Its litter tray should be placed in a convenient location.

A cat cannot control its bowels for very long so you must be watchful at certain times as already mentioned. The kitten will begin to cry and will start to look around for a secluded spot in which to attend its toiletry needs. When you see it doing this, you must see it doing this, you must act promptly and place the kitten in its litter tray.

For litter training for cats, gently hold its paws and scratch them into the litter. It will usually oblige. If not, and it jumps out of the tray, you must continue to watch it and repeat the operation. It will very quickly catch on as to what is required. You must, however, accept that the odd accident will happen. The tray must be kept clean; otherwise, the kitten will not be encouraged to use it.

Cats are no problem at all to cater to in their day-to-day management, but when a kitten is arriving into your home, you should be aware of potential dangers. Cats are very cautious creatures, but kittens are adventurous and learn about dangers only as they mature.
