Since the time of its inception – first as a settled area and later as an American state – Texas has gone out of its way to buck tradition and stand against the norms. The history of Texas blends Mexican and Native American traditions then heaps a hefty dose of Spanish influence on top. The culture of the area was also affected by the arrival of American settlers pushing south and west in search of space, freedom, and opportunity. This odd conglomeration created the state that once fought for independence and still claims to be "like a whole other country."

Real Estate in Texas, then, is as varied as its history and people. Looking for big city life? Try Houston for a cosmopolitan vibe that is distinctly Texan. How about a classic city with a life of its own? Dallas has its own lore, literature, and, practically, language. Looking for a manageable creative community? Austin is renowned for its galleries, theatres, and all-around artistic way of life. For those who are not interested in city life, there are plenty of smaller towns and suburbs – along with wide open spaces for ranchers, loners, or anyone who just wants a little peace and quiet.

One reason that residents love Texas so dearly is its profusion of natural attractions and activities. Hunting and fishing are strong in the state, and there are ample opportunities for boating and camping. Nature lovers can find a full range of organized and by-the-seat-of-your pants outdoor activities, and an organized Outdoor Kids program encourages young Texans to get up and out the door.

Those looking for a different set of diversions can find plenty of arts and culture – and everyone is sure to enjoy the Texas State Fair, an annual 24-day extravaganza that brings out the best in Texas culture.

At the end of the day, the truth is that Texas really does have something for everyone: it might just be its own country. If you’re a young family looking to raise children, you’ll enjoy the great schools and ample activities that come with real estate in Texas. A single person just starting out? Texas’s wide range of cities offers a bevy of options for someone looking for a job, an apartment, and a place to grow. For retirees, Texas’s warm climate and open atmosphere make it an ideal landing spot. No matter who you are and where you come from, then, Texas is big enough for you, your family, and your future.

Jay Carter and Michele Kim Carter are not your typical real estate agents. They believe in working hard for their clients, and then re-investing their free time and money into worthy causes such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Austin Junior Forum. In the summer of 2007, Jay and Michele collected donations of children's clothing here in Austin, and then personally delivered them to orphanages in El Salvador. http://www.livinginaustin.com
