Taking a vacation trip to the wonderful city of Rome can be the experience of a lifetime. It allows the visitor to feel like they are walking through history and experiencing a marvelous new culture. Here's several key spots that will highlight any person's trip to Rome.

The first stop in Rome should be the world-renowned Colloseum. Stepping into this magnificent and large open structure gave you the feeling of being in the award winning movie Gladiator or Spartacus. The Colloseum was where the Romans held their fierce competitions involving gladiators fighting for their lives against each other and animals. Walking through the empty stadium made you realize just how intense it must have been to be a spectator back in ancient Rome, cheering for your favorite warrior in each contest. It is recommended that you visit when there is less of a crowd, so you can better experience this vast, open air arena.

Another spectacular site to see is of course the gorgeous Vatican which showcases the beautiful Sistine Chapel. It is recommended that prior to you heading to Rome you try to arrange a private guided tour for this site. The tour guide will be a local who's familiar with the history and can give you all sorts of great stories about the beautiful statues, paintings, sculptures and other items within the Vatican. A hired guide can also get you to the front of the long line you will be met with when waiting to get in. If you're lucky, the Pope may be around, on a Sunday if you're visiting the Vatican. This site will of course be well known by faithful religious visitors and those who have read the popular Da Vinci Code book by Dan Brown.

One spot many people may not know or visit in Rome is the "Boca de la Verdad" or "The Mouth of Truth". This is a simple stone statue housed in a small hall like room near a church. The legend has it that visitors must stick a hand inside the gaping open mouth of the round face statue. If you leave Rome with one less hand, it likely means you are a liar!

On one day during your trip you can take in both the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. The Spanish Steps will be located right near the fountain and are a splendid site to behold. The fountain itself is a gorgeous site on a sunny day and conveys a feeling of peace and harmony, no matter how much of a crowd is gathered around it. The legend here is to sit on the fountain and toss a coin over your back so you will make another trip someday to the wonderful city of Rome!
