Wheatgrass is an incredibly diverse yet equally as incredible simple plant that has been analyzed and found to contain many components beneficial to humans as well as animal life. Besides being surprisingly nutritious when in comparison to its simplicity, wheatgrass also helps stimulate cell growth and increase the production of red blood cells.

The unique properties of wheatgrass include:

- Chlorophyll: The many benefits of chlorophyll alone are impressive enough as this amazing substance acts an anti-inflammatory, helps to purify and counter the negative effects of toxins, as well as nourish the body by building blood cells, similar to the way hemoglobin acts, which carries oxygen to the cells from the lungs.

- Gluco-proteins: The protein known as P4D1 is one of the main components of wheatgrass and features three different functions, including acting as an antioxidant by stimulating the growth of new DNA to form healthy cells. P4D1 also reduces inflammation, even more so than cortisone in some people, and is especially beneficial to those with conditions such as arthritis. This gluco-protein is also said to help the body fight cancer by working in tandem with white blood cells.

- Muco-polysaccharides: Muco-polysaccharides are combinations of simple and complex sugars that help to simulate the process within the body to repair and replace damaged cells. The better we're able to do this with the aid of natural substances, the less we'll be affected by the inevitable aging process. Cells within the vital organs, such as the heart and lungs, age as the outside of our bodies do and also benefit from the regenerative properties of wheatgrass.

- Superoxide Dismutase: Also known as SOD, superoxide dismutase is one of 30 enzymes present within wheatgrass that has antioxidant properties, also helping the body to fend off diseases like cancer.

- Vitamins and Minerals: The vitamin and mineral content of wheatgrass is rather impressive as it contains vitamins A, B1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 12, as well as C, E, and K. Minerals include iron, zinc, selenium, iodine, iron, and the ever important calcium. Interestingly enough, the few amino acids that are not present in wheatgrass are those that are easily made naturally by the body.

Wheatgrass and Good Health

Although us humans aren't able to digest wheatgrass in its raw form the way that cows, goats and horses do, we're still able to benefit from the many properties contained within this naturally growing product. A juicer will be necessary to break down the hardy fibers and layers of cellulose that wheatgrass contains. Because of that high fiber content, wheatgrass is excellent for combating constipation and to help maintain bowel regularity.

Wheatgrass juice is also a natural way to boost energy and has been likened to drinking coffee, and the reason for this may be the many vitamins, minerals, and carbohydrates it contains. Along with sensible eating and regular exercise, wheatgrass may also help with weight loss because of its high nutrition content which minimizes cravings and also causes one to feel fuller faster.

Besides the inside of the body, wheatgrass applied to skin wounds is said to be helpful also because of its antibacterial properties. For the same reason, gargling with wheatgrass juice may also help to relieve the pain of a sore throat.
