This can be result of many factors, common ones being poor web design, little or no SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and sometimes it is simple as not having your site submitted to the major search engines. You will be amazed at how many people pay a lot of money for a website that cannot be found unless you know the exact URL address.

Not sure where to start? Read on to consider some important web factors in owning a website. Before you consider outsourcing web design services make sure you consider our Top 10 Web Design Factors.

DOMAIN NAME Registering a Domain Name is important, because it is the gateway to people finding you on the web. Now at this point you need to decide if you want people find you, it may sound like a silly statement though a lot people get caught in their own ego by having to name their site after their business, this okay if you have a well established business name or industry related connection.

So choose a Domain Name that is suited more to your service or product, and then take the time to select it wisely as this is more so how the search engines will index you quickly. Next to decide whether to use a .com or .com.au as this will depend if you are planning on having a global presence or a local, note depending upon the web host may influence the upload speed which may frustrate consumers to your site.

FLASH ANIMATION AND FRAMES This has been a great tool for creating visually pleasing websites, with interactive imagery to add a dynamic look and feel to your website. The downside can be in the delay to upload the active content and the fact that search engines do not use images or flash to index your website, they use text. Remember when you are looking for something on the web you will be found more often by text.

CONTENT IS KING This is one of the most important factors in good web design, yes it can be visually appealing to have great images though once again have a good script or sales header on your home page normally a minimum of 350 words provides a better chance of search engines finding your related product or service.

STRATEGICALLY TARGETED KEY WORDS This is a common area not done well by web designers, why because they do not understand good SEO. A lot of web designers are in fact great graphic designers. One can build a site with great pictures, though this has no relevance to the search engines being able to find you. Ask to get a comprehensive analysis on your site to determine if you positioned more favorably against your opposition.

GOOD HTML OR ANCHOR TEXT CODING For most new to the web and for the majority of websites they have poor coding. Without getting to technical it is essential that the back end of your website includes HTML tags or search engine friendly text. Surprisingly many web designers do not put enough emphasis on this; ask if the search engines are sending their robots to your site to track changes to content and how often as an example.
