Urinary incontinence is a condition in which a person can no longer control urine. It is a total loss of the mechanisms that control urine passage from the bladder. A person fails to regulate the bladder and its behavior. The bladder empties itself as it wishes. There is always a urine leakage somehow no matter how hard a victim tries to control and regulate it. Male urinary incontinence occurs in different types. It is important to identify the type of incontinence afflicting a patient before treatment can commence. Identifying the type of incontinence is important as it influences the type of treatment that can be accorded a patient. It also ensures the patient is given the maximum attention, assistance and care that he deserves. Diagnosing the type of incontinence affecting a victim has its significance as it affects the type and mode of treatment that best suits the victim.

Urge incontinence is a type of male urinary incontinence in which the victim can not hold the urine long enough until he is in the right place to relieve himself. It is a situation in which you really want to urinate but you can hardly make it to the restroom. Urine comes out by itself long before you can make it to the restroom in good time. This type of male urinary incontinence mainly affects people already suffering from other maladies and ailments. People living in dementia are very prone to urge incontinence. They can hardly hold back the urge once it comes calling. A person suffering from a stroke attack is vulnerable to urge incontinence. A stroke causes a permanent or temporary paralysis of of the motor cells and neurons. This interferes with the flow of information between the bladder and the brain. It is also experienced by people suffering from diabetes and Parkinson's disease.

Stress incontinence is one of the most widespread and common types of male urinary incontinence. It has a close relationship with stress factors. The more the victim is stressed, the more the urine leakage becomes worse. Stress worsens the situation even more by disabling the little control mechanism, if at all it was there. A little stress coupled with little pressure on the bladder is enough to send torrents of urine gushing out of the bladder uncontrollably. Urine can automatically leak more especially during laughing, coughing and sneezing. The situation can be such bad even when it comes to lifting of heavy objects. When a victim attempts lifting a heavy object, urine leaks freely from the bladder. Any form of exercise that makes the bladder to be under pressure is enough to cause urine to leak from the bladder.

Overflow incontinence is a urine overflow from the bladder. When the bladder is at maximum capacity and it cannot hold any more urine. The subsequent result is that an overflow occurs. The overflow is in form of a urine leakage from the bladder. Functional incontinence is another type male urinary incontinence that affects people with an already existing physical problem. The physical problem hinders a victim from accessing the restroom fast enough to relieve himself.
