I fell in love today.
Unique, creative, resourceful, caring, insightful, strong, courageous, athletic, great sense of humor who consistently defies the odds. Could a woman find a better man?
He was also covered with a strange combination of blue and purplish fur and his best friend was a one eyed green creature who was constantly yakkety yakking throughout our time together.
Who is my new Romeo? Sully, the lead monster in Disney's latest movie, Monster's, Inc.
Sully (along with several significant assorted monsters) transform the society they call home. They change their community from one that is actually powered by the screams of fear into one which receives its energy from laughter. With ingenuity, passion, and a spark of love from a little girl who once petrified him, Sully overcame tremendous adversity to bring his people from power shortage to power in abundance.
The formula Sully used in Disney's surprisingly inspirational movie can be applied to successful transformation in human's lives as well. To turn your switch, lets try out the following.
1. Examen the roots of your fear. Is what you are afraid of truly a danger to you? Don't accept what you have been told to be gospel. Experiment. Listen to your inner knowing. Step out.
2. Think productive thoughts: train yourself to be an expert problem solver. Embrace that everything is NOT how it seems. Find your way to create new paradigms and then shift into them...and bringing others along is a great part of the fun!
3. Align with people who truly care about you. Great achievements rarely come alone. Having a team of partners, a mastermind group even of one other person, can exponentially increase your effectiveness.
4 Know how your job effects your life and the life of others. If your job is to collect energy, find the method that is for the highest good of all. Instead of being adversarial, look at solutions from a Win/Win perspective.
5. Realize that the truth is sometimes hidden in surprising packages. As the saying goes, don't judge a book by its cover. Don't believe that the degree, the title, or the whatever-of-the-month award says the entire reality of the individual (or company) before you.
6. Never accept failure as an option. True, the odds may seem stacked against you, but as another inspiring animated character once said, "Our odds are one in a million? Then we still have a chance". *
7. Act with the knowledge that laughter and love can change the face of your universe. This is a truth that is repeated. And repeated. And repeated. If you don't fully believe this truth? Try it our for one week in your home, workplace, community or organization. Live consistently in an environment of love and laughter and you WILL experience change.
Victor Hugo said, "Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face." Come out of the cold and into the warm sun.
Live. Laugh. Love.
