Buying a new car

6. Carefully check the Manufacturer’s warranty. All new cars come with a manufacturer’s Warranty.

7. The agreement for sale is a legally binding contract. Before signing it, make sure you read and understand it.

8. One of most important things you must do before deciding on a car is to drive the vehicle before you buy. Check for visibility and how easy it is to operate all the controls. Look at how comfortable you feel when driving the car.

Buying a used car

1. Check out the trading post and online sites such the Sydney based carsforyou.
2. Don’t rush while buying a car. Shop around & try to compare different car models & deals.
3. Definitely ask the seller about the past history of the car. That includes

• How long did they own the car
• How many owners has the car had?
• Does the seller actually own the car?
• Why are they selling?
• How many kilometers has the vehicle done?
• Do you have a full service history for the car ( log book)?
• Has it ever been in an accident? Is it garaged?

4. Try to judge the basic mechanical and soundness tests before buying any used cars or cars. You must include That includes
• Does the Electrical equipments work properly?
• Is the air conditioning working?
• Do the gears engage smoothly as desired?
• Check the wear on the tyres (the tread depth should be at least the depth of a match head)
• Can you hear any strange noises from the engine and transmission?
• Rock the car up and down. Does it continue to rock after you let go? There may be problems with the shock absorbers.
• Is there any grabbing or pulling to one side when you brake?

5. Check with the RTA or Department of Transport in your state to make sure that there is no finance owing on the vehicle — this is called a REVS check in NSW
6. Don't inspect the car at night or in the rain, as this will hide defects.
7. Lastly but most importantly take the car for a test drive to make sure it feels right for you, it may look good but you might not feel comfortable driving it.
