You can also use tarps to line irrigation trenches and make the water flow to specific areas. Tarps can also cover haystacks and hay bales in the field to protect them from mold, which can harm livestock.

Protecting Outbuildings

If you want to protect your barn or other outbuildings, you can use heavy-duty poly tarps. You can use these to temporarily cover a roof or block off an area in which you want to hose down livestock. Tarps are waterproof, so that they can provide an effective moisture barrier to protect areas you want to keep dry; for example, you can protect other areas of your barn from the hose down area and can protect the interior of your barn from rain, for example. Lighter and less expensive blue poly tarps are often used to repair building roofs (for example, the Army Corps of Engineers uses them for disaster victims after a tornado or hurricane has come through), but many property owners, ranchers or farmers prefer heavy duty poly types instead. These do provide added protection versus the light weight blue poly tarps.

Heavy Duty Poly Tarp Benefits

If you've gone through a disaster stricken area, no doubt you've seen the blue tarps draped over damage to homes and other areas where damage has occurred. These have more than proven themselves effective, even for the rather long term. However, the farmers and ranchers often prefer heavy-duty poly tarps, because they are much sturdier. They last longer and are better able to stand up to adverse weather conditions than the less expensive and lighter weight blue poly tarps. Even better, heavy-duty tarps have UV protection built in; this prolongs the tarp's life during very hot summer days. These can even protect against sun reflection from the snow; this type of UV light can be equally damaging.
