Angelina Jolie is an American film actress known for both her tumultuous personal life and her international humanitarian efforts. Born in Los Angeles in 1975, Jolie is the daughter of actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand, who divorced when Jolie was a baby. Jolie was raised by her mother, along with her brother James Haven, in Palisades, New York and Los Angeles, California.

Angelina Jolie started modeling at age 14 and while she made her onscreen debut in the 1982 movie Lookin’ to Get Out with her father, Jolie officially started her acting career with the low-budget Cyborg 2, in 1993. Later she garnered positive attention for 1995’s Hackers, her first major film. After Hackers Jolie starred in critically acclaimed films George Wallace, for which she won a Golden Globe Award, the HBO movie Gia, for which she won a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award. After a few forgettable films, Jolie again did well with Girl, Interrupted, in which she won her third Golden Globe Award, her second Screen Actors Guild Award and an Academy Award for Best supporting Actress. She followed up this winning streak with a series of successful action movies including Gone in 60 Seconds, the Laura Croft: Tomb Raider movies and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, her biggest commercial success. Most recently she has starred in the well-received movies The Good Shepherd, A Mighty Heart and Beowulf. Find out more about Jolie’s acting career in entertainment magazines like Entertainment Weekly, Us Weekly and People magazine.

For much of her early film career (1995-2005) Jolie frequently made entertainment news in celebrity magazines like People magazine, In Touch magazine and Cosmopolitan magazine for her personal life. While she was briefly married to British actor Jonny Lee Miller who co-starred with her in Hackers it was her second marriage to actor Billy Bob Thornton that garnered a slew of tabloid media coverage (and passionately kissing her brother at the Oscars) due to their bizarre rituals like wearing one another’s blood in vials around their necks and gratuitous kissing and other public displays of affection. After divorcing Thornton in 2003, Jolie made entertainment media headlines when she was accused of having an affair with her Mr. & Mrs. Smith co-star Brad Pitt and thus breaking up Pitt’s marriage to actor Jennifer Aniston. Both Jolie and Pitt denied any romantic involvement yet in early 2006 Jolie confirmed to People magazine that she was pregnant with Pitt’s child. In recent years Jolie has made as many headlines for her humanitarian work. Beginning in 2002 with the adoption of her son Maddox, Jolie’s public persona changed dramatically. She no longer projected the wild child persona instead she has brought a lot of attention to international issues as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency. She adopted another orphan, daughter, Zahara, from Ethiopia.

In 2006 Jolie gave birth to daughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt in Namibia. For the North American rights to the first pictures of baby Shiloh, People magazine paid $4.1 while British magazine Hello! paid approximately $3.5 million for the international rights. Jolie and Pitt donated all profits to an undisclosed charity. In 2007 Jolie and Pitt adopted three-year-old Pax from Vietnam. In 2008 a source confirmed to People magazine that Jolie is once again pregnant and Time magazine featured Jolie and Pitt as part of their annual "100 Most Influential People" issue.
