In general, hypnosis is used to help individual's deal with a habit, overcome pain or even deal with fear and anxiety. This is done by way of a trained hypnotherapist who uses his skills to relax a person's mind and block out everyday distractions in an attempt to free the mind and leave it open to suggestion. There are other types of hypnosis, however, such as covert hypnosis. Covert hypnosis is done by using subtle suggestions in a setting that is different from a clinical one.

Basically, covert hypnosis is just a way of connecting with someone on a subconscious level. It is also done without them being able to tell that you're actually trying to do this. There are many different reasons why somebody would want to use a form of covert hypnosis in their conversation but it basically boils down to being able to steer somebody to think or feel in a certain manner. You may recognize the situations this form is used in mainly, sales, either by a salesman or in the form of a sales letter. This type of hypnosis can be accomplished it two basic steps.

The first step that needs to be taken is that of establishing a rapport with the person. This puts the person's mind at ease and opens it up to suggestion. It is not often easy to come up with this rapport but it can be done through the use of using agreeable conversation. For example, if a person is talking to you about the color of the room that you're in and they dislike the color, you could agree that you also dislike the color. What this does is it places you on their level and makes them more comfortable speaking with you.

The second step after establishing trust and rapport is to begin to influence them via body language and conversation. There are many individual's who do this in order to steer the conversation in a direction that suit's them. One of the best examples of this is a mechanic. The mechanic doesn't start off by trying to get you to purchase the new set of rotors, even though you don't need them, they will do some things for free and let you know about it in an attempt to sell you those new rotors on the backend. This is a very effective way of utilizing covert hypnosis in an attempt to steer a person's thinking in a way that benefits them.

Once you have mastered the use of covert hypnosis, you can use this method in order to influence any type of conversation. All it takes is a bit of practice and you'll have people literally eating out of the palm of your hand. Before you know it, you'll discover that you can guide people in whatever direction you want them to go without even knowing your doing it.
