Diamond rings are sold across the country but are they still marketed more towards men or are more companies starting to market diamond rings to women?

To understand whether marketing on diamond rings is in fact for her, for him or for both him and her, we must first understand what marketing is. Many textbooks have been written about marketing and as such there is no one answer. However, one of the simplest definitions defines marketing along the lines of marketing a product and/or service to a consumer. Therefore, since consumers can either be male or female this surely means that diamond rings are marketed towards both genders. Or does it?

The answer is this. Any product or service, in this case diamond rings, can in fact be marketed to anyone. It all comes down to who the company feels will drive the most sales. So if a company decides that men will in fact buy the most diamond rings, then the company will promote diamond rings accordingly.

The question nowadays however, is whether men still buy the majority of diamond rings or is there now much more of a 50:50 split. Luckily for marketers, software packages have become more frequent and of far more use in recent years. Information can be acquired from these software packages and analysed to produce whatever results are needed. The results can then be used to shape the future marketing strategy of the company.

The rise in equality in recent years has seen more and more women taking the driving seat in relationships. It seems women nowadays want to take the relationship to their partners rather than wait for their partners to take it to them. As such, this has meant that women are buying more diamond rings. Marketing strategies therefore have had to change somewhat and companies have had to start marketing diamond rings towards women a lot more.

Many of the leading companies have very similar marketing strategies in that they know who their target audience is and they target them specifically. However, one company in particular has a particularly good website that breaks down what items are for men and what items are for women. The items for women are then broken down into more groups to make it particularly easy for consumers to choose what they desire.

Although strategies have had to change to keep up with modern trends, there are still a considerable number of men that still buy diamond rings, probably at least half. For this reason, marketing strategies cannot only target women and therefore a range of creative diamond rings strategies must be introduced. Diamond rings for her, diamond rings for him, and diamond rings for both genders must all be considered if companies are going to strive for that extra bit of business.
