When I graduated from college 10 years ago with a degree in nursing I thought I had my career path set until I retired. I had landed a job in a busy metropolitan hospital where I had done some of my clinicals while I was in school. The first several months just flew by while I was orientated and learned all the hospitals protocols.

After the first couple of months went by and things started to settle into a routine, one of the first things I noticed was how unhappy a lot of my fellow RNs were with their jobs. I didn't think much of it at the time. I just thought every job has those "complainers", the ones you can never make happy. I vowed I would never become one of those.

I don't know at what point my attitude began to change towards nursing. There wasn't one particular event; it seemed to develop gradually over time. I still found satisfaction in helping patients; it was just all the other stuff that started to wear me down. Working short staffed, increased patient load, working nights, weekends, and holidays, just to name a few, all started to turn my attitude into that of a "complainer".

I thought changing jobs may help, which I tried on a couple of occasions. Job changes provided some temporary changes in my attitude but eventually I found myself drifting back to those negative thoughts which led to job dissatisfaction.

During this entire process my husband and I were blessed with two wonderful children. With each shift it became harder and harder to leave the house. The thought of leaving them at home or daycare hung over me like a black cloud for the entire day.

Is this worth all the money I spent on for college? Am I stuck with this career for the next 20 years? Is this what all jobs are like? What about people who say they love their work?

Financially I needed to work, my husband had a good steady job, but we were unable to make it on his salary alone. Even though I really wanted to be home with our children I ultimately wanted a career as well. Being a RN is the only job I knew and nobody was going to pay me to stay at home to take care of our own two children.

It was at this point I was presented with a career opportunity, where I could have my cake and eat it too. This new career path allowed me the flexibility to work from home, so I could continue to be a stay at home mom, and the ability to earn an income to help our family financially. It sounded like a match made in heaven.

I became part of a home based business and learned internet marketing. It is not one of those companies that promises easy or fast fortunes. However, they do have a step by step plan in place, so that even without any marketing or business experience you can be successful and reach your financial goals. There still work involved on my part, but I have found that my outlook on life and my self-esteem is so much better now that I am my own boss. I now have control of my own career.

By starting a home based business and marketing on the internet, I can work the my home business around my families schedule. Not like my old nursing job where I scheduled my family around my job. If this is a priority for you like it was for me, you too should give a home based business a try.
