Travel to Belize, Explore Mayan Ruins or Take Part in Festivals

A Belize vacation presents unlimited opportunities for those who love outdoor adventures. Tourists can participate in a wide range of sightseeing, cultural and outdoor activities. Belize is considered as one of the beautiful places in Central America. The people who live here are primarily English speaking and have a much laid back approach to life. Belize is a Creole dominated country.

Belize travel can lead you to dramatic Mayan ruins and zip lining through untouched jungles making it a very wonderful place for adventure. Belize offers intriguing tropical forests rich in wildlife, magnificent mountains, mysterious Mayan temples, and diving and fishing experiences that are beyond comparison.

Belize has conserved 40% of their country for parks and natural reserves. Belizean and tourists can take part in celebrations all year round. It all started in January while many cross country races throughout the year which begins in New Years day.

In Belize City, a Harbor Regatta is held in March to celebrate Baron Bliss Day, a tribute to one of Belize’s greatest benefactors, Sir Henry Edward Ernest Bliss. This special day is observed through sailboat racing, kite competitions and horse races.

During this same time of the year, the La Ruta Maya River Challenge also takes place. This is a four day challenging canoe race starting in San Ignacio and is concluded in Belize City.

In August, the celebrations of the Costa Maya Festival takes place, an annual five day celebration held in San Pedro Ambergris Caye featuring entertainment and participation from the five Mundo Maya countries which includes the Belize, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. The most popular activities that that place during this event is the La Reina de la Costa Maya Pageant where you’ll experience parades, music, lots of food and drinks, dancing and more. For nearly the entire month of September, the whole country celebrates with festivities because every 21st of September they celebrate their Independence Day. As you can imagine, social activities flourish during this time of the year. There are carnivals featuring street parades with colorful floats, bands and creative costumes. In honor of the arrival of Garinagu to Belize, they celebrate the Garifuna Settlement Day held every year on November 19. The Garifuna communities are in charge of the celebration of this national holiday.

Just like in most countries in the world, Belize celebrates Christmas Day in December where all families and friends gather together for huge feasts of turkeys, hams, fruit cakes and gift giving. This yuletide season is celebrated with lots of parties, cultural dances, horse races and sporting activities.
