Mediterranean Resorts meet the Magic of North Africa

Smart resorts and beautiful beaches adorn its coastline... A host of dramatic landscapes open up inland... Then there’s the chance to spend a couple of days playing Indiana Jones and scrambling over dusty ruins... Whichever way you come at it, a Tunisia trip can really claim to have it all!

How to get there – for the right price:

With an ever-increasing number of holiday-makers heading off there, naturally there are some attractive options around for that perfect Tunisian trip. Firstchoice and Thompson are amongst the leading contenders, while the ever-reliable Lastminute.com can help you escape from work for a week or two!

But as is so often the case in life, a little bit of investigation can yield big rewards. For those prepared to have a crack at booking on a foreign site, Logitravel offer some pretty compelling prices on all manner of viajes Tunez (that’s ‘Tunisian trips’ in Spanish) including flights, hotels and package holidays.

Resorts:

To the north of the country Tunisia just seems to be a series of one fantastic resort after another. Just a couple of hours after landing at Tunis’ Carthage International Airport, you can be stretched out on the beach, or nursing a cocktail by the hotel pool at Hammamet.

Down towards the south of the country, meanwhile, things are hardly any less appealing. Port el Kantouai is a pretty little resort town built around a swanky marina, while nearby Sousse is held up as the ‘Pearl of the Sahel’.

Or you can make like the Lotus Eaters (of classical myth) and see if you really can have a surfeit of pleasure on the island of Djerba… Monastir, on the other hand, presents a blend of beach/resort and history in the form of its impressive castle and ancient walled town.

See the sights:

And this is where a trip to Tunisia really comes into its own. If the beach ever does begin to drag, Tunisia is riddled with breathtaking historical sights. Most people are only aware of the famous ruins of Carthage, but Tunisia also boasts sites like Dougga, Sufetula and the remarkably preserved El-Jem Colosseum.

Hamman Mellegue is a hot spring where you can follow in the footsteps of the Romans and bathe, while the UNESCO protected Punic city of Kerkouane is definitely worth the journey, too. It’s a compelling line-up, but (for cinema fans, at least) they’re not a patch on the extraordinary cave houses of Matmata – the location of Luke Skywalker’s home in Star Wars.

What next?:

Having had a good dose of beach and sightseeing, Tunisia has another trick up its sleeve in the awesome excursions on offer. 4x4 trips (or for those who really want a slice of authenticity, camel rides) provide tourists with a glimpse of the stark majesty of the Sahara. All in all, then one thing’s for sure: you could certainly never accuse a Tunisia trip of being boring!
